Wow have we been blessed lately! We have added some amazing team members to our staff over the past 18 months and we are looking for more! We have current openings and are actively hiring for:
DRAFTERS – We could use another AutoCad drafter to help draw plans for infrastructure projects across the southeast. Still in drafting school? No worries! We’ll be flexible and work around your class schedule while you gain real world experience on real world projects. If you’re already out of school, this is a full time (40 hours +) position with benefits in our Hoover office.
PROJECT ENGINEER – Seniors, graduate level students, or recent graduates in Civil Engineering for full-time positions in our Hoover office, starting immediately or upon graduation in May or December 2023. We have one spot left in Hoover and one in Tuscaloosa!
PROJECT MANAGER – Licensed professional engineers with 4-15 years experience in civil/site design or water/wastewater infrastructure. If you are looking for a change of culture or an increase in freedom and responsibility, let us know. We can use civil/site and utility professionals in both our Tuscaloosa and Hoover offices. Maybe we should say who we’re not first. We’re NOT your typical stuffed-shirt giant engineering firm full of cubicles and pocket protectors. And we’re NOT a woo-woo, motivational fluff company either. We’re hard-core entrepreneurial capitalists who believe that God made us to be significant, to do something significant with our lives, and to have a wide-ranging impact through our work.
We are InSite Engineering, LLC, a nineteen-year-old company that is small by some standards – there are 33 of us – but constantly growing at a controlled pace. We have two offices – Hoover and Tuscaloosa – with one objective – to be the highest quality provider of engineering services to selected customers in the southern United States. We work hard to over-respond to our customers and provide them with solutions to very difficult problems. We strive to become an integral part of their staff and want them to depend on us for everything they do.
Our mission: To PLEASE GOD by improving the quality of life through the design of sustainable infrastructure. Huh? We want to make the world a better place to live. We design subdivisions, water treatment plants, roads, highways, ballparks, community centers, storm shelters, and other similar stuff. Things that improve the quality of life for everyone that they impact.
We focus on residential and commercial projects, and small to mid-sized cities and the utility systems that serve those areas. These are the places where we can have the most immediate impact. Plenty of firms pay attention to the big guys; we want to serve the other guys. We have active projects in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi. Some of the projects we are working on include a 600-lot residential subdivision, two major drinking water PFAS-mitigation projects (in addition to the one that’s up and running), a brand new drinking water plant on Smith Lake, a massive new student housing project on a college campus, and other impactful stuff.
We are a service organization made up of engineers, designers, consultants, advisors and mentors. We combine the skills of all our stakeholders to get the best result for each of our customers.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We’re looking for someone who believes what Zig Zigler said, “You will get all you want in life if you help enough other people get what they want.” We need someone who understands that serving our customers with a servant’s heart, will make them the most successful in their career.
Highly successful team members at our firm believe deeply in what they do, and for whom they do it. For us, it is important that you are great at doing the work, but it is just as important is that you match our culture, and believe deeply in the services that we provide to our customers.
We aren’t hiring just more employees. We’re looking for someone who expects to have an impact in the lives of our stakeholders, dozens of our customers, and the tens of thousands of people that our customers serve.
So if you like a fluid, growing, expanding organization that is local and quite small, but with a wide reach, and if you enjoy helping us all figure out how to continue moving forward, we could be a good fit. If you are looking for a box within which you will find a clear list of tasks to perform and a rigid “hierarchy”, please do not apply – we don’t see life that way.
What is the Next Step?
We don’t need to see your resume yet. Please do not send it and please do not call (unless we’ve specifically told you to). For now, just email us answers to the following questions. Short answers are fine – we don’t expect you to spend two hours on these:
- How is this position a fit for you?
- What would you get out of working in the environment described here?
- What are the three biggest strengths you could bring to us?
- How can we support you – what do you need from us to be successful?
- Where do you want to go with your life (career is a part of life, not separate)?
- What’s the one thing standing in your way of getting you to where you want to go?
What other helpful info did we forget to ask?
Send your answers to firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll get back to you!
HERE'S A LOT MORE ABOUT US
– You’re already here, so you had might as well check out some of our projects and the types of things we work on there. You’ll get a feel for the types of customers we have and some of the folks we work with. Honestly, you’ve already noticed that our website is old and out of date, but we’ve got someone working on it!
And we’re on Facebook – facebook.com/InSiteEngineering – we’re not very good at the whole social media thing….but you’ll get the idea.
January 10, 2005 – InSite’s birthday.
34 – That’s how many Stakeholders we have today.
Our VISION – To be the HIGHEST QUALITY provider of engineering services to selected customers in the southern U.S.
Our MISSION – To PLEASE GOD by improving the quality of life through the design of sustainable infrastructure. If we meet this mission, we will be all over our vision!
Our KINGDOM PURPOSE – to enrich the lives of those we encounter through service, leadership, and reward. This would include you!
Our CORE VALUES – as determined by our current Stakeholders based on the way we run the business:
- A Christ-centered work environment. He gave us a pretty great model to go by, we just try to follow it.
- Integrity & Honesty. You’ve got to be REALLY smart to be dishonest. We’ve found that it’s a lot easier to tell the truth every time.
- Teamwork. We’re all in this together. If you want to work completely alone and never interact with anyone, we’re not the right fit for you.
- Life / Work Balance. Life is messy. You can’t leave it in the car or check it at the door. Bring it to work with you. You’ll do better that way.
- Highest Quality Work – We strive to be the best. And when we do the four things above, it’s pretty easy.
HERE'S WHAT WE BELIEVE:
We believe that This is God’s business. And it’s pretty cool that He lets us run it for Him!
We believe in the Worth of the Individual. That all of us are made to do and to be something significant, and we will use work as one way for people to find and create that significance.
We believe in Ownership. It is the most powerful driving force in business. Everyone must own something, whether it is their task, their process, their job, their future, their result, or their company.
We believe in Transformation, not education. We lead from our experience, not from our knowledge.
We believe Time is the New Money. Most employees only ask their employer for money, but we believe our business should give us Time, Money and Significance (T+M=S).
We believe in Speed of Execution. Implement now and perfect as you go. Waiting around for perfection is a bad idea.
We believe in Bad Plans. Bad Plans Carried Out Violently Many Times Yield Good Results. It’s never how good your plan is that matters, but how committed you are to the Bad Plan you’ve got. Get moving.
We believe in Yield Per Hour – YPH. We expect stakeholders to always ask “What is the highest and best use of my time?”
We believe in Advisors, not in experts or gurus. Not “coach” or “director”. We are advisors to our customers, helping them succeed so that we can do the same.
And we believe in the Small Guy. Small entities have to take risks that make them the best leaders and the best hope for a better world. Nobody pays attention to the little guys. We do.
We look forward to hearing from you!
